By thematizing the urban imaginary, Rodrigo Pederneiras' choreography innovatively dialogues with Arnaldo Antunes' electronic soundtrack.
In the accelerated rhythm of the movements, the violence of the gestures, the breaking of lines, and the arching of bodies that seek to move close to the ground, Rodrigo Pederneiras develops new characteristics for this dance, ranging from the languid to the robotic.
“The body is opaque enough / to be seen.” This body dances bathed in the stage lighting of Paulo Pederneiras, a square of spotlights vibrating with the music like a gigantic spectrum analyzer.
The Body transforms the stage into light and the costumes into moving sets: they are black sculptures that dance in a red box. The bodies gain new volumes through the design of the clothes by Freusa Zechmeister and Fernando Velloso. They form a gang, or tribe; but their individualities are accentuated by the movement and the unusual nature of the costumes.
Arnaldo Antunes's phrases take shape in dance; and the dance gives a new perspective to the group's trajectory. In the sum of gestures, sound, and light, O Corpo concentrates, with new accents, the Brazilian essence of Grupo Corpo.
